Despite the final score, Rasmus leaves the tournament as one of its definitive breakout stars, having spent the summer rewriting the record books for female players on the world stage.
Much of the narrative surrounding this particular matchup centered on whether Rasmus would be available to take the mound. Because she had thrown 54 pitches during Monday’s win, league rules mandated a three day rest period, leaving her ineligible to pitch against Ohio. Without their ace on the hill, Alabama struggled to contain a relentless Ohio offense that jumped out early with four runs in the first inning and another three in the third. By the time Ohio tacked on four insurance runs in the final frame, any hope of a comeback had vanished.
Ohio dominated nearly every facet of the game, combining for twelve hits and eight walks. Bryson Williams led the charge with three hits, while teammates Jack McAdams, Bob Frazier and Finn Dykes all drove in multiple runs.
